Digital X-rays are the most common imaging tool we use to examine your dog or cat’s skeletal, cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. This is a non-invasive procedure which usually does not require your pet to be under anesthesia and will allow your veterinarian to get a better look at the conditions that may be affecting your pet.
Digital X-rays offer many benefits over standard film X-rays, namely that the image quality is much higher and can be visualized by us within a few seconds following exposure. Because we are able to view the X-ray almost immediately we can diagnose and treat your pet rapidly.
Digital radiology is most often used to:
- find foreign objects or materials within the body that may have been ingested
- diagnose fractures, bone and/or joint abnormalities, and various injuries
- screen for abnormalities within the heart, lungs, urinary, and digestive organs
- screen for some types of cancer
Digital Dental X-rays
Our dental suite is equipped with digital dental radiography, allowing us to visualize the internal anatomy of your pet’s teeth along with the roots and surrounding bone. This makes it possible to diagnose bone loss or hidden disease that may be present in the tooth roots and jawbone areas that may need advanced treatment.
Digital radiology is also environmentally friendly because there are no chemicals to contaminate water systems. Radiation exposure to your pet is minimized as there is far less radiation for digital radiography.
